Victorious Festival

Throwback to ArtGility, Funk Format and New Theatre Royal at Victorious festival

In August 2017, we took part in an exciting production at Victorious Festival. The performance was created by ArtGility, which is an innovative movement language which fuses hip-hop dance, theatre, parkour, architecture and technology. ArtGility also uses choreographic and physical movement principles, along with architectural elements to educate audiences through the art of story telling. The name of the show was “Hypozeuxis“, which is a ‘rhetorical term for an expression or sentence where every clause has its own independent subject and predicate.’ This performance uses ArtGility to challenge the stereotypes in which male dancers succumb to, and introduces this new ideology to a predominately contemporary audience at Victorious Festival. Choreographed by Malik Diouf from Yamakasi and our own Sasha Biloshisky, the show was brought to life by a freerunning specialist Tudor and Sasha.

They performed 6 shows over a two day festival, with each performance followed by a workshop for children and teenagers. The performances were received with wide acclaim from children and older generations alike. Our volunteers from Funk Format assisted in the workshops which allowed them to develop new skills. Behind the scenes, show producers, set and costume designers, sound technicians and safety supervisors ensured everything was safe for the performers and audience members.

The show “Hypozeuxis” received an incredible feedback from the audience.
None of this would be possible without the support from the Arts Council England. The festival was a great platform to showcase our work and we hope to return in the future with a new show.
