Step Your Way Encore 2022

Step Your Way Encore

Step Your Way Encore

A creative exploration of how the rhythms in popular music and dance evolved over 200 years, particularly of Maritime Portsmouth.

How can the heritage of the past become popular and relevant today? What does the Sailor’s Hornpipe, Tap Dance and Street Dance mean to the youth of today? The project will explore how rhythms in popular music and dance evolve over 200 years of Maritime Portsmouth.

We are looking for young people (age 11-25) who would be keen to discover heritage through dance and music. Participants are not required to be dancers or musicians. If you are passionate about discovering local heritage or you enjoy making videos and photography, we want to hear from you.

Volunteers of all ages
Volunteering would include assisting young people with learning difficulties, helping coordinate participants and take project images.

Your will experience dance, drumming, cutting edge laser technology and a visit to a Portsmouth historic site. The focus is on the participants’ own journey through the project.

Step Your Way Encore builds on our previous highly successful project, which you can see here Step Your Way (with subtitles) – YouTube.
