Breaking Battle Portsmouth

Funk Format are proudly staging an exciting dance event as part of The Fitness Festival in Southsea. In the wake of last years Youth Olympic Games, the ‘Breaking’ dance style is beginning to gain more attention, as its dynamic nature catches the eyes of people of all ages, and is inspirational especially for young people.

The future generation of dancers will be the focal point of this Jam. The main event is an Under 15s Battle, but there will also be a 16+ battle, so anyone can enter! Bboy Adam, of the legendary crew “Second to None”, Bgirl Sunsun of “Grounded UK”, and Bboy JP of the “Floor Crusaders”, who hold a wealth of knowledge and experience, will be judging to ensure the competitors receive honest and fair decisions. This is the perfect time to get children involved as Breaking last year was, for the first time ever, at the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games! Young Bboys and Bgirls from all over the world competed and demonstrated to everyone that this dance form is like no other in terms of athleticism! Bumblebee from Russia took home gold for the boys category, whilst Ram from Japan won the gold in the girls. This shows that no matter where you are from, you can take home the Olympic title! We will provide free taster workshops in breaking as well as in other disciplines, so you can learn some skills and experience this one of a kind art form first hand! Our event is FREE to attend. The festival starts at 9am, the battles will start between 10:00 and 11:00am, and the festival will finish at 5pm. So come and spend the day by the beautiful sea in the historic Southsea and get your groove on! For your viewing pleasure, we will have battles featuring professional dancers, so everyone can be inspired by the years of practice, motivation and amazing skills! But it won’t just be for the professionals, we encourage all audience members to participate and get funky with us! A live drummer will be present, which will get you grooving! No matter your age, the dance and music is for everyone!
